Skin Rejuvenation at Advanced Specialty Care

IPL Photorejuvenation & Laser Pigment Correction in Connecticut

As we age, the effects of sun damage become more apparent. People develop red and brown blotches on their skin. The skin becomes rough and develops uneven skin tones. We all associate this with “looking older”.

At Advanced Specialty Care, we offer two advanced treatments to address these concerns: Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photorejuvenation and laser pigment correction using the Clarity II system.

Using the Lumenis M22 IPL machine, much of this sun damage can be reversed. The intense pulsed light (IPL) targets redness, blood vessels, and pigmentation to restore a more youthful skin appearance. This treatment is often called a photofacial.

Laser pigment correction with the Clarity II system provides highly targeted treatment for unwanted pigmentation such as sun spots and age spots. Both treatments can significantly improve uneven skin tone and sun damage.

What do IPL & laser pigment correction treat?

IPL vs. Laser Pigment Correction

IPL photorejuvenation and laser pigment correction both improve sun damage and uneven skin tone, but they work slightly differently.

IPL photorejuvenation uses broad-spectrum light to treat redness, broken capillaries, and pigmentation across larger areas of skin.

Laser pigment correction, performed with the Clarity II laser system, uses targeted laser energy to treat specific areas of unwanted pigmentation or sun spots.

During your consultation, our specialists will determine which treatment is most appropriate for your skin type and concerns.

How do IPL photorejuvenation and laser pigment correction work?

IPL and laser pigment correction both use light energy to target pigment and blood vessels in the skin.

IPL photorejuvenation uses broad-spectrum light to target enlarged blood vessels and abnormal brown pigment in the skin. This helps reduce redness, brown discoloration, and uneven skin tone over a series of treatments.

Laser pigment correction using the Clarity II laser system delivers targeted laser energy to break down concentrated areas of unwanted pigmentation such as sun spots and age spots.

Both treatments gradually reduce visible damage, typically over a series of 3–4 treatments, with patients often seeing a 70–90% improvement in redness, pigmentation, and overall skin tone (individual results will vary).

What happens during IPL or laser pigment correction treatment?

Both treatments utilize a series of light pulses that feel like a mild heating of the skin. The treatment takes 15- 20 minutes depending on the treatment area and technology used. Afterwards there is often a mild redness of the skin that lasts for a few hours. Discomfort is minimal and patients return to their daily activities immediately. The treated blood vessels and brown spots may appear temporarily darker and will fade over 1-2 weeks. Sun protection before and after the treatment is very important.

The interval between follow-up evaluation/treatment is four to six weeks.

Are IPL & laser pigment correction safe?

Devices such as IPL and laser systems are complex machines and if used incorrectly can cause adverse effects. In skilled hands the treatments are very safe. All treatments at Advanced Specialty Care are evaluated by a physician and are performed under physician supervision.

What can I do to help maintain the results of my treatment?

Since the damage comes from sun exposure strict sun protection is necessary. Additionally a medical grade skin rejuvenation cream is recommended to continue the rejuvenation process. Maintenance treatments of IPL photorejuvenation or laser pigment correction once or twice a year can also be helpful.
