Are you self-conscious about the appearance of your earlobes?  Perhaps you’ve suffered an injury or have stretched earlobes from earrings that you’d like to repair.  Earlobe Repair is a common procedure that can help restore the appearance and function of your earlobes.  In this blog post, we’ll cover what you need to know about earlobe repair and how Advanced Specialty Care’s Plastic, Cosmetic & Reconstructive surgeons can help.

What Causes Earlobe Damage?

Earlobe damage can occur for various reasons, including trauma or injury to the ear, long-term use of heavy earrings, injury, which involves gradually increasing the size of the earlobe hole over time.  Additionally, age and genetics can play a role in the weakening and stretching of earlobes.

What is Earlobe Repair?

Earlobe repair is a simple surgical procedure that can be performed under local anesthesia.  The procedure involves removing damaged tissue and reshaping the earlobe to restore its natural appearance.  The goal is to create a smooth, natural-looking earlobe without any visible signs of scarring or deformity.

What to Expect During the Procedure

Before the procedure, your surgeon will assess your earlobes and discuss your goals and expectations.  They will also explain the procedure in detail and answer any questions you may have.

During the procedure, your surgeon will use local anesthesia to numb the area around the earlobe.  They will then remove any damaged tissue and reshape the earlobe to create a natural-looking contour.  The incision is then closed using dissolvable sutures.

Recovery & Aftercare

After the procedure, you will need to follow your surgeon’s aftercare instructions carefully.  This may include keeping the earlobe clean and dry, avoiding strenuous activity, and wearing a compression bandage to minimize swelling.

You may experience some swelling and discomfort in the days following the procedure, but this should subside within a week.  Most patients can return to work and other normal activities within a few days to a week after the procedure.
