What Is Lymph Drainage Massage?

Lymphatic drainage massage is a non-invasive gentle massage that helps drain the lymph nodes. This moves the fluid in the body when there is more fluid than the lymph system can move out on it’s own.

The Lymphatic system is part of the circulatory system. Its main function is the restoration of excess fluid and protein in the blood. The Lymphatic system also helps the immune system by getting rid of waste products in our body. Lymph nodes are located throughout our body, in our neck, axilla, arms, chest, pelvis, groin, and legs.

How Lymphatic Massage Works

Lymphatic massage uses a vacuum cup device to deliver a specific amount of gentle pressure and rhythmic movements to stimulate lymph flow at an area of concern. It may feel like a gentle massage and slight suctioning on your skin. This will aid the Lymphatic system by helping to carry away excess water and cellular waste, simulating the lymphatic system naturally. By helping to drain excess fluid from tissues, lymphatic massage reduces puffiness and swollen tissues.

When Lymphatic Massage Is Used

The lymphatic flow can stagnate for many reasons, such as swelling from a surgical procedure or chronic inflammation. A lack of physical activity can play a role as well. When lymphatic circulation becomes sluggish, fluid accumulates. This will cause congestion; excess fluids will build up and cause swelling. Lymphatic drainage will help the body’s natural waste removal system, moving the fluid and unblocking the lymph nodes and reducing the swelling. The benefit of this non-invasive procedure is that it will help rejuvenate and restore a healthy lymphatic system so the body can carry waste away and filter it naturally through the body. Lymphatic drainage can be performed every 2-6 weeks or at the advisement of your doctor.  Results from treatment can vary.
