During a breast reduction, extra breast tissue (gland) and extra skin can be removed restoring a youthful higher look. If the breasts are sagging, but are of acceptable volume, then a simpler breast lift may be required. The choice of which of these procedures can or should be done is made by the woman after consulting with a plastic surgeon.
An abdominoplasty can be performed to reverse the effects of pregnancy by tightening the fascia (the structure) of the belly wall and to remove extra stretched skin from the lower abdomen to restore a smooth contour to the belly and remove stretch marks, if possible.
Both procedures are commonly performed together under general anesthesia but do not require admittance to the hospital. The recovery time is about two weeks and you should expect to take about two weeks off from work. Both procedures, either separate or combined, are considered cosmetic and are not usually covered by insurance.
