Behind-The-Ear Aid
The standard behind-the-ear hearing aid has a large tube connecting a custom ear mold to a hearing aid that sits behind your ear. This tends to be the best choice for power hearing aid users, children and those with wax or moisture problems, because the large tube and custom ear mold is easily cleane
In-Ear Aids
The receiver in-the-ear style also has a behind-the-ear component, but it connects by a thin wire to an earpiece. This is a more cosmetically appealing option for many people. When observed from the front, this hearing aid can hardly be seen on the ear! This is a good choice for those with normal low frequency hearing, because the ear is kept open. People report that this style has a more natural sound. One drawback, however, is that it can be difficult to insert for those with manual dexterity problems.
In-Ear-Canal Style
In-the-canal aids come in varying sizes depending on a person’s hearing loss and ability to handle a small custom instrument. These aids are made from impressions of a person’s ears. A benefit of this type of hearing aid is that they are usually the easiest to use with a telephone. However, they are often a less ideal choice for people with a lot of earwax because the internal components are inserted directly into the ear.
