Get to know Kari Lowell, RN and Specialist of Skincare & Laser at Advanced Specialty Care. Kari gives us a look into what drew her to the field of Skincare and how she enjoys her time in & outside of the office.
1. What’s your favorite part about working for Advanced Specialty Care?
I absolutely love working for Advanced Specialty Care. I wake up every day looking forward to coming to work to see both my clients and co-workers. There is no better feeling than loving your job and the work you do. Helping clients look and feel their best and seeing them leave with a smile on their face is definitely my favorite part about working here.
2. What is it like working in a multi-specialty practice alongside dermatologists and plastic surgeons? What advantage does it offer you and your patients?
Working in a multi-specialty practice is another great part of my job here at Advanced Specialty Care. As a registered nurse specializing in Skincare, I am able to work in conjunction with the dermatologists and plastic surgeons, which gives the client a multidisciplinary team working together to create the best clinical outcome for the client. Having a dermatologist and Skincare nurse working together at the same practice produces the best client outcomes in regards to clinical care.
3. What are your favorite parts about being a Skincare specialist?
My favorite part about being a Skincare specialist is helping my young teen acne clients regain their confidence again and instructing my older clients on how to care for their skin after years of not doing so. Seeing clients take the initiative to help & treat their skin, and then seeing how happy they are with the results makes me feel on top of the world.
4. What are the most challenging aspects of your job?
I find the most challenging part of my job is being patient with the process. Just like my clients, I like to see result quickly, but unfortunately, things take time and consistency; especially skin issues that have been neglected for a long time. I am a perfectionist so I put a lot of pressure on myself to provide each client with individualized care and a treatment plan so we can monitor progress and follow through on our Skincare goals as a team.
5. How did you get into the field? What led you to Skincare?
As a young girl, I struggled with a bad case of the chicken pox. it left my skin (mainly my face) riddled in pox scars that embarrassed me and I was afraid it would last forever. My mother, who was always very cautious with my fair skin, was also worried about scarring and took me to a plastic surgeon to see if there was anything I could do. For the next two years, I was ordered by the doctor to put small adhesive Band-Aids over each of my pox marks during the day, to protect them from the sun, thus possible further scarring, and at night we would apply a special cream to each one before bed. Despite feeling incredibly embarrassed as a young girl with Band-Aids scattered all over my face, over the next two years he was able to completely rid my skin of any evidence of chicken pox. From that moment on, I always took extra special care of my skin, and I knew I wanted to work in the medical field just like my parents, with a specialty in Skincare. As a natural-born empath, it gives me great pleasure to provide my clients with the same satisfaction that I received as a child.
6. What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I like to take my three-year old son on lots of outdoor adventures. I also love to cook, travel, do yoga and kickboxing, listen to music and attend concerts, read and paint. I also love to relax on my hammock and go to the beach on nice days. In addition, I love visiting the city for shows, exhibits and fabulous food!
7. What’s on your bucket list?
I want to visit Japan, India, Italy, Australia, Egypt, Fiji and numerous states and cities within the US that I have yet to visit. I would also like to provide my skills as a nurse and attend a humanitarian mission, and obtain Israeli citizenship for my son and I.
8. What do you most want patients to know about you?
I want my clients to know that I love what I do, and I take pride in teaching and treating them to the best of my ability. No matter the skin concern, I will always go above and beyond to make sure each one of my clients receives the best treatment possible. My clients’ health and care are of utmost importance to me. When my clients leave my office smiling, I do as well.
