"Dear Dr Batti, Two years ago this October, you saved my life. Nothing I can write could ever thank you enough for what you did, but I do want you to know how you helped. I came into your office, referred by Dr. Ahern, with a sudden swelling of a salivary gland. The standard option to get a better look was an ultrasound, but because of my age and perhaps other factors you thought you might be able to get me a CT scan, which is how we proceeded. The scan confirmed there was nothing special about the salivary gland swelling, but incidentally picked up a lung nodule that "concerned" the radiologist. As you delivered the troubling news and need/process for follow up, you said something to the effect that, 'although it may not seem like it now, it's a blessing in disguise.' And so it was. A biopsy confirmed that it was lung cancer, adenocarcinoma, fortunately very early stage. It was removed by lung segmentectomy surgery in December 2020, no need for chemo or other treatment, just follow up every 3-6 months for five years. I've gone through my first few follow ups and everything seems just fine. Hopefully, this will continue. My next one is in December. Had you not, in your kindness and diligence, gone the extra mile and gotten me that CT scan, this cancer would still be growing inside me. Most lung cancers aren't caught early enough, and it's a life and death distinction. What can I say other than thank you for saving my life.
