Because as it turns out, the best way to put an end to unsightly varicose and spider veins is the same for you as it was for nana: Sclerotherapy. Today, millions of people in the U.S. are having this treatment every year because it has a long history of working.
Sclerotherapy has been in use since the 1930s
It’s a fairly easy, non-surgical procedure that can be performed in our offices. It’s practically painless and usually calls for only a few changes in your post-procedure activity levels.
It’s as simple as this
A liquid solution, usually containing saline, is injected directly into the unwanted vein. This irritates the lining of the vein, causing it to swell and stick together. The blood in the vein clots, and over time, the vein turns into scar tissue that fades away.
Studies have shown that 50%-80% of injected veins may be eliminated with each treatment session. An injection session usually lasts 20 to 30 minutes, and depending on your veins, it can take several sessions before you see meaningful results.
After sclerotherapy, you can drive yourself home and resume your regular activities. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for a few days, but walking every day is encouraged.
You will also need to wear a compression pantyhose, which actually contribute to the successful destruction and disappearance of the vein after injection.
And it’s effective
When your veins respond to the treatment, they don’t reappear. However, new veins can appear. While the procedure is considered fairly simple, it can take some patience to achieve the results you desire. Eighty years of patients can tell you it’s worth it.
