1. What’s your favorite part about working at Advanced Specialty Care?
I love being a part of a caring organization that prides itself on educating their team and creating a friendly environment so that we can serve our community to our best ability.
2. What is it like working in a multi-specialty practice?
Being part of a multi-specialty group has a great dynamic benefit because we are able to treat patients more holistically. We are able to provide input from different perspectives that will inevitability give better care to the whole body rather than one system.
3. What would you like people to know about APRN’s and what they do?
APRN’s are skilled and educated providers that are able to assess, diagnose and treat medical conditions as well as prescribe medication. We take part in regular continuing education opportunities and training.
4. What are your favorite parts of being a Dermatology provider?
Many patients feel self-conscience when they are dealing with a visible skin condition such as acne, psoriasis or even skin infections. I really enjoy being able to improve a patient’s self-esteem by working to treat and manage their problems. But the most rewarding aspect of being a Dermatology provider is that I am able to save someone’s life by detecting skin cancer. Dermatologic issues are often the body’s response to the underlying problems. I love being a detective and finding the root cause of a skin eruption.
5. What are the most challenging parts of your job?
I think the most challenging part is navigating the ever-changing health insurance landscape which is difficult for both providers and patients.
6. How did you get into the field? What lead you to Dermatology?
I had been working with Pediatrics for the past 16 years including practicing at a community health center where there were very Dermatologists. I began taking the initiative to learn all I could about dermatologic diseases and treatments so I could better serve the community. I became so enthralled with the work and reward from this venture that I decided to delve into this specialty and leave primary care.
7. What do you like to do outside of work?
I have two sons, 12 and 10 years old, that keep me happily busy with extracurricular activities but in my free time outside of practicing medicine and family time, I enjoy traveling, running, skiing and hiking with my 3 dogs.
8. What’s on your bucket list?
- Scuba diving in the Maldives
- Running the Boston Marathon
- Competing in an Ironman triathlon
- Leading humanitarian missions
9. What do you most want patients to know about you?
I take pride in treating each and every one of my patients with respect and your care and health concerns are my utmost priority. No matter your age, gender or background, I will always listen to your concerns and do my best to find the best treatment for you.
