A Full Tummy Tuck VS A Mini Tummy Tuck: What Is The Difference?

A Full Tummy Tuck VS A Mini Tummy Tuck: What Is The Difference?

You’ve been working out, doing those ab routines, dieting but you’re not satisfied with the results in your stomach area. Or perhaps you’ve lost a lot of weight and have excess skin around your middle. A tummy tuck, also called abdominoplasty, may be an option for you. Before you decide on a tummy tuck, there are some options to consider.

A fulltummy tuck is the ideal procedure if your main cosmetic issue is to remove loose skin that extends from above the belly button down to the pubic area. Tightening of the separated muscles underneath can be done at the same time.  What cannot be fixed is if there is a significant amount of residual fat left attached to skin that is not removed. Aggressive liposuction of this fat at the same time you have a full tummy tuck can affect proper healing.

A mini tummy tuck means different things to different surgeons. Here at ASC, it involves general liposuction of the forward abdomen. This can be combined with liposuction on the sides as well if desired. To do this, a tummy tuck incision is made in the lower bikini area and a limited amount of skin is removed at the bikini level toprevent loose skin from developing in this area. The skin and fat layer is not removed from the muscle and no work is done on the muscles. This is a great procedure for people with a small amount of loose skin below the belly button, but the skin otherwise has good elasticity. For these individuals, the main cosmetic issue isn’t excess fat throughout the abdomen, but there is a C-section scar or slight loose skin that needs to be resolved to give a smooth appearance.

A consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon will help you to see which of the two procedures is best for you and fulfills your expectations.  At ASC Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery, we perform tummy tucks and other body contouring procedures such as arm lifts and liposuction, as well as face lifts, eyelid surgery, breast augmentation, reconstruction and reduction. Our plastic surgeons have offices in the Fairfield County, CT towns of Danbury, New Milford, Norwalk, Ridgefield and Southbury.
