Everything You Need To Know About Facelift Surgery

Aging takes its toll on the face. The facial skin sags and loosens creating unwanted folds and creases. Although the structure beneath may still be youthful, the hanging skin hides that structure and an aged look results. If you’re looking for a more youthful look, you may want to consider a facelift. Facelift surgery reshapes the facial skin and the soft structure beneath to a more youthful contour. Facelift with or without a neck lift removes the aged appearance by pulling the skin up and back to a location with a better contour, higher and smoother.

What To Expect In Your Facelift Consultation

The first step to any facelift surgery is a consultation with your plastic surgeon where you will discuss the specific goals of your facelift surgery. Some people require a correction of a particular area of the face; others require a more extensive procedure. Usually, photos are taken and you’ll also be given an opportunity to see prior patient photos. At ASC, we will do a comprehensive exam of your skin to decide if any pre-operative improvement in the skin is necessary before proceeding with the facelift operation.

Other Considerations Before Facelift Surgery

A facelift or necklift is a cosmetic surgery procedure and therefore not covered by insurance. Options do exist for payment, and this detail can be covered with the cosmetic surgery coordinator.

You should also be aware that specialists other than plastic surgeons are able to perform this type of surgery. In any case, make sure the surgeon is board certified. All of our ASC plastic surgeons are board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons.

What To Expect

Facelift surgery is an outpatient procedure, commonly performed at a surgical center. The type of anesthesia used may vary, but the procedure requires at least sedation and sometimes general anesthesia. All modern surgical centers are equipped with the latest devices to make sure the anesthesia is safe. The procedure takes 2-3 hours. People with medical issues may require a medical clearance to make sure they are healthy enough to have this kind of procedure.

Recovery From A Facelift

Recovery from this surgery takes several weeks. There is usually some bruising and some swelling, but these disappear in about 10 days. The disappearance of all swelling may take up to a month.

If you’re interested in facial rejuvenation via a facelift, schedule a consultation with one of ASC’s surgeons to see if this type of surgery can turn the clock back to a more youthful time for you.
