Now Offering Almond Desensitization
Advanced Specialty Care’s Food Oral Immunotherapy Treatment program is the first and longest-running OIT program in Fairfield County.
We are excited to announce that we have expanded our program to now include almond desensitization in addition to peanut, tree nut, egg, milk, and sesame.
The purpose of Oral Immunotherapy Treatment is to decrease the likelihood that the accidental ingestion of an allergen will trigger a worrisome allergic reaction, and hopefully to allow the introduction of foods containing allergens into the diet.
Undergoing desensitization can significantly improve the quality of life for those with severe food allergies as it makes the risk of accidental allergy exposure less stressful.

4th of July Hearing Protection
4th of July is right around the corner but before you set out to watch fireworks, make sure you have proper hearing protection.
Fireworks average 150 decibels. That’s louder than a rock concert, jackhammer, and firearm!
It only takes prolonged or repeated exposure to noise levels of 85 decibels to cause hearing loss.
You can safely enjoy fireworks, and protect your hearing, by using hearing protection such as circumaural headphones (over the ears hearing protection). Circumaural headphones are easy to use and provide more foolproof hearing protection than foam earplugs.
Of course, it never hurts to double on hearing protection by using foam earplugs and circumaural headphones. Or, for those looking for a more comfortable fit, Advanced Specialty Care offers custom-molded hearing protection.
Preventing Swimmer’s Ear
Swimmer’s ear occurs when your outer ears are exposed to water & the debris (wax & dead skin) in the ear canal soak up the water making the canal moist. This creates a perfect environment for bacteria to grow & infection to happen.
Here are tips to help prevent Swimmer’s Ear:
- Use earplugs or headbands to keep water out.
- Avoid submerging your head in the water.
- Keep the ear dry after swimming by using specially formulated drops. *These should not be used if the eardrum is perforated!
- Avoid using Q-tips as they tend to scratch the ear canal skin allowing moisture & bacteria to penetrate the protective barrier.
- Keep wet hair pulled back behind the ears after swimming and wave a hairdryer past your ears several times while drying your hair.
Most importantly, don’t delay getting treatment if you are experiencing ear pain as the swimmer’s ear can cause severe pain when untreated. Treatment usually consists of topical antibiotic drops & the sooner it’s treated by an ENT Physician, the sooner you can get back to enjoying summer.
