When Do You Need Hearing Aids?

When Do You Need Hearing Aids?

The decision to get hearing aids is a personal one, and the journey to better hearing is not the same for every person. Perhaps you have been tested and have learned that you have a hearing loss. Maybe you find that you are having difficulty hearing and want to learn if hearing aids would be helpful.

A few signs that you may benefit from a hearing aid include:

  • Difficulty understanding conversation in noisy places, such as a restaurant, party, or meeting
  • Difficulty following conversation in a group of people
  • Asking people to repeat
  • “Missing” parts of a conversation, such as the beginning and end of sentences
  • Turning up the volume on the TV and stereo
  • Looking at people’s lips when they are speaking
  • Avoiding social situations and “tuning out” of conversation because you can’t understand what is being said

Almost all degrees of hearing loss can be helped with hearing aids. So even though you may have been told that you only have “mild” hearing loss, you may still find a wonderful improvement when using hearing aids!

It’s never too soon (or too late!) to try hearing aids – better hearing has been linked with improved mental health, maintaining independence, better work performance, and better social life. Furthermore, better hearing has been shown to help maintain our health as we age!
